Their live albums are great even with 2000 edits, according to Bruce Botnick. The Matrix Tapes bootlegs are the best, from March of '67. I read somewhere that Krieger thought their late fall of '66 shows in New York were truly the best they ever sounded, back when the magic was still there. I wouldn't fault the Doors because of Morrison's writing though, I'd fault them for his ridiculous behavior and alcoholism, which ruined them and robbed them of what could have been a more legendary career than they even had. He wasted so much on drinking. The Doors also could have been a little more original. They borrowed plenty, just like the Stones and just like the Zep, taking particularly from the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. Five to One is Walkin' Blues and The End takes directly from East-West.
