That's a great way to put it, Gomp---the Doors are dear to my heart and always will be, but I've drifted away from them in recent years, focusing mostly now on 1966-67 only. But, to agree with Shattered, I will say that I always thought the Soft Parade was grievously underrated and maligned because it is actually a fantastic album, and a full-album listening session is now in order for it tonight.
Generally speaking, though, the same could be said of most of the music I listen to these days: "It doesn't always fit my mood, but when it does, it REALLY does!"
I'm realizing, the older I get, that the better the music is the less able I am to do other things while it is on (like work, pay bills, make calls, clean, laundry, even cook!) Meaning, I will bother less and less with putting an album on now unless I can really sit down and engage with it and give it most of my full attention.
