Are we living in a post-Rock 'N' Roll culture?

I just happened by this very short but interesting interview with Sinead O'Connor. Its from a couple of years ago, I think, but the idea she expresses is true and timeless, in my opinion. She's always been a highly controversial figure, she's dealt with mental illness and many other issues, but she seems to be a survivor and she makes perfect sense here as she comments on the music business today. For the vast majority of music which is prepared for consumption by the masses, it's style before substance and music has shrunk in its ability to comment on what's really happening in the world, to speak truth to power, and really connect us all.

Yes, Rock still exists and is still being made at this very moment. But check out MTV and similar channels. There's not much of it to be found there. Look at the Billboard charts - not much there either. Rock is now just one of many genres, just like Jazz, Calypso, or Folk. Its still big as concert revenues prove, but its just not at the forefront of the culture among young people. This is at least true stylistically and certainly true in terms of the ethos it once represented.
