Elvis could play a pretty mean guitar, but never got much of a chance to do so. Early-on during his comeback TV special, he swapped his acoustic for Scotty Moore's hollowbody electric and demonstrated that the instrument in his hands could be more than just a prop. He also played electric bass on occasion, including on the studio version of "You're So square, Baby I Don't Care". And of course he was no slouch on gospel style piano. For the Sun Records "Outlaw" sessions, that's him doing of the piano, even though Jerry Lee Lewis was featured on the record. And not to forget his driving acoustic rhythm playing during the earliest (circa 1954) Sun sessions. For most of those tracks there was no drummer present, but Elvis held down the rhythm and was a key part of that trio's sound.
