SFTD (1+1) to be re-released.....

You might recall late last year when I reported this news here after I had gotten advanced word on this from one of my insiders, and we talked about this a bit, but I wasn't told at the time when it would take place, but now we know...

Sympathy for the Devil (aka One Plus One), the Jean-Luc Godard 1968 movie based around the recording of the classic Stones song, will be re-released to mark its 50th anniversary next month by ABKCO Films. As I noted, unreleased takes recorded but never shown in the movie will be included now, but I'm still not sure what that all means, and the link I'll provide below claims it's gonna include cut out footage shown in that doc released 2 years later titled Voices, which I saw in a movie theater when it came out, but then never saw or heard of it again, so stuff from there will be included now. From what I recall from that stuff, hard nosed fans (that's you guys) will enjoy the extra stuff, even if that wasn't a lot of footage, it was still very cool.... I remember there's a bunch more showing of the recording of the backup vocals, different than the one shown in the original movie, in the take Keith isn't singing the backups with the rest this time and instead he's off to the side laying down the bass track as the others sing. Jimmy Miller is also not in there singing either this time and instead is shown in front of them as they sing, directing them by moving his hands and arms up and down as they sing so it's all uniformed. I also recall another take showing more of Bill - with him recording the main percussion heard in the song. Then the fire where the studio burned down is also showed. Had Jimmy Miller not been on his toes that day and saved the tapes as the fire started, most of the recordings and takes of the song would have been lost forever. But going by what the article states, that stuff will be shown... but will anything else new with the Stones be added in, too?

We also must remember the other part of this movie - the second part of the "one" plus one (the Stones are the other "one")- which has nothing to do with the Stones and IMO, sucked. Back in the 1980s I put together a video of this movie which only showed the Stones parts, since most Stones fans would always fast forward and watch only the Stones parts. It's a great doc movie if that's all you watch, but again, that's only half of the flick and you gotta wonder if "added in footage" to this new release will be more of the non Stones parts, which I rather not see.
