Believe me I actually NEED a shoehorn. 😲 Plus, they're good for the shoe, you don't bend the back of them when putting them on.
I had carpal tunnel syndrome until I had surgery in each hand to fix it, over 5 years ago. (Each surgery takes about ten-or-so minutes now. Things have changed!) My hands were so bad, even my doctor/surgeon told me it's among the worst he's seen.
So when you have hand issues, you learn to be creative and here's what I did so I don't have to go through the painful and laborious task of tying my shoes.
I slip them off, so they remain tied, and to put them on I would use a pair of pliers to keep pulling on the 'tongue', while slipping my foot into the shoe or sneaker, with the aid of the (makeshift) shoehorn.
I still use that method today because, even though the surgeries solved the CTS problem, they seem to have triggered off Raynaud's phenomenon. Even when it's hot out, my fingertips still feel numb.
When it comes to shoes in the house I'm the exact same way! SHOES OFF AT THE DOOR. Even when my son lived here, his friends knew to remove their shoes. It was an automatic.
Really, shoes in the house is disgusting. We Americans do a lot of things wrong, and shoes in the house is certainly one of them.
My God we step on all sorts of things out there, even if you can't see it. And wiping shoes on some old piece of rug doesn't do anything.
