2 Stones LPs polls/AC/DC video/Paul&MJ/Fabs movie

Time to talk about our new weekly polls as week 958 of the Stones weekly poll is here and as usual we will run 2 Stones polls in this one week. The first poll question asks this: England's Newest Hit Makers vs Emotional Rescue, which album do you like the best?

vs

Week 2 of the England's Oldest Hit Makers Poll in the Stones VS series, and this week their debut LP will take on another Stones LP that isn't too well loved, that being Emotional Rescue.

Until I started this Stones VS polls a few years ago, I had no clue that this debut LP was so unloved by fans compared to their other LPs, but the proof is in the pudding as far as its losing record goes and being way down in 19th place in the standings at 5-9. That blows me away, as this album is better than that record, and I don't care if it has a lot of covers on it, the reason I see given over and over again here as to why fans never pick it first. Most rock albums, really all LPs other than the Beatle’s albums, had mainly covers on them in 1964. But regardless of all that, this week ENHM goes up against an LP that maybe it can beat? Emotional Rescue has never been well loved at all by Stones fans, and in this series it has a record of just 2-13, in third to last place.

To cast your vote in this first VS poll, just click on: Stones Weekly Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

The second Stones poll is where we normally run the Stones album VS matchups, and we will continue to do so this week as we try to get every Stones LP matched up against each other in the remaining 43 weeks of the Stones weekly poll. So this week's question asks: Undercover vs Sticky Fingers, which album do you like the best?

vs

The Undercover Polls are back in the open this week, and doesn't this one poll question look like we have an ant going up against a giant? Well we do! Undercover, is perhaps the second least liked Stones LP, and has only won only one round in these Stones album VS battles (it won in a landslide against Dirty Work, of course), while losing all the rest, totaling 14 losses, and is in second to last place in the standings. This week it's its turn to take on the only album in this series to be undefeated, that being Sticky Fingers, with a first place record of 15-0.

To cast your vote in this second Stones poll, just click on: Stones Weekly Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

At the first Stones poll last week we answered this question: England's Newest Hit Makers vs Aftermath, which album do you like the best?

vs or

The very first week of the England's Oldest Hit Makers poll series, and I wish I could say that the Stones’ debut LP did better in its own series, but that wasn’t the case last week, as it lost in its first round as being the host album.

To see the full final results from this poll, click onStones Weekly Poll - week 957, poll 1. Plus, I’ll add the results from this poll to the standings at the Stones VS Page 1, where at the top of the page you can check out the updated standings on how each album has done in these long running VS polls..

Looking back at last week’s second Stones poll, the question was: Black 'n Blue vs Tattoo You, which album do you like the best?

vs

Well, as many of us figured (silently) that there would be a landside coming with this matchup, once it all was said and done, yes, that was the case indeed.

To see the poll’s landslide results, just click here:Stones Weekly Poll - week 957, poll 2. Plus, just like at the first poll, I’ll add the results from this poll to the same standings at the Stones VS Page 1, where at the top of the page you can check out the updated standings on how each album has done in these long running VS polls.

Over at the Classic Rock Poll we enter poll week 598, and just like as we do at the Stones poll, we vote in 2 poll questions a week in this one too. The first poll’s question this week asks this: Rate the AC/DC official video for their song “'Highway to Hell' (Click here for the video)

Been thinking a bunch about the band AC/DC in the last month with the deaths just 3 weeks apart of the 2 Young brothers, rhythm guitarist and the actual leader of AC/DC, Malcom Young, and his older brother who was AC/DC's manager and Easybeat co-leader and singer, George Young. I had read a rude and uncalled for reader's comment at Yahoo News after Malcom died. This jerk wrote in almost these exact words, how Malcom ‘just exited the highway to Hell, as he finally made it to that dark place, and he would now be joining his brother George along with his late bandmate Bon Scott, in the real down under.’ Yes, I'm sure a bunch of guys whose only crime in life was to make others happy playing their music, would be heading or would end up in such a place, even if it did exist, which I'm sure it doesn’t, not in the afterlife anyway. Maybe we got such places here on Earth for some who are alive and not leading great lives, but that’s it, IMO. But the way some people think and can be so rude while lacking good feelings for their fellow man, just blows be away (all while they think that they are so much better people then the rest of us, when they are the actual dirt bags in life that us good people have to out up with).

Anyway, the video that we are rating this week is the official video for AC/DC's best known song, and IMO, their best song period. Full of energy and raw power, along with a great guitar riff, it was a #1 hit in the U.S. on 2 different charts and #4 on the UK singles chart when it was released back in 1979. The song's lyrics were written by Malcolm Young and Bon Scott, while the music came about from Malcom and Angus Young. "Highway to hell" was (or is) the nickname for Canning Highway in Australia, which ran thru the town where singer Scott lived, in the town of Fremantle, and ends where a pub called "The Raffles" was located. That joint was a rock and roll drinking hole in the '70s and where one night several teens were killed on this very road after heavy drinking at the pub. So that's where the song and album actually got its name from.

The song (along with the band's great new album of the same name), made an already very popular band - superstars, but sadly, just six months after the song and album was released, Scott would be found dead one morning in the back seat of a car after drinking himself to death in a pub the night before. The video wasn't put together until shortly after his death, taken from one of Scott's last shows with the band, where they played the song live, although the song's studio music and singing were used for the video’s sound instead of the live music from this show. This made perfect sense, since this video was supposed to be for the studio version of the song after all.

Now don’t forget, in these video polls we are voting on the entire video, not just the song. The video is linked to from the voting booth, so you can and should watch it before you vote, to help to refresh your memory of it. The link to the video can also be found here in this thread (above).

To cast your rating in this poll, click here: Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

At the second Rock poll this week, known better as the Rock VS poll, we will vote on this question: Paul McCartney vs Mick Jagger, who is the better lead singer?

vs

I almost didn't run this question after the BS this poll's question caused here last week, but that was just one person’s comments and overall the similar poll question asked last week went actually very well, fans seemed to like this question, so let's do it again this week asking about Jagger again, but this time going up against the other Beatle who was the co-lead singer in the Fabs, Paul McCartney. Really not a lot for me to have to say here on this question, as you all know both men very well, so let's just get to voting!

Now again, just like the last month of questions on this featuring the Beatles and Stones, this poll question is not just limited to their singing in the Beatles and in the Stones, but their solo work should be considered too.

To vote on this question for the better of the 2 singers here, just click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

Looking back at last week’s first Rock poll, we asked: Rate the Aerosmith video for 'Dude (Looks Like A Lady)' (Click here for the video)

This is a well like video, with an “8” getting the top vote (24.8%), with spots 7 thru 10 by far seeing the most votes overall.

To see the full final results from this poll, just click here: Classic Rock Poll 1, week 597. For now the final result are showing up on this list page: Top Ten Lists, Page, 14 But I will real soon set up a new page for these results just like I have for the Stones and Beatles videos.

In last week’s VS Rock poll, we answered this question: John Lennon vs Mick Jagger, who is the better lead singer?

vs

Very close voting in this one, but other than a tie at one point, around midweek, the man who actually lead for the rest of the week, hanged on to win the poll by less than 10 votes. Who was that? Just click here: Rock Poll 2, week 597 to find out. You can also check out the final results at the VS Classic poll results page 2, at the Classic Rock site, by clicking here: VS Page 2, List Page 10. .

We close out this poll post as usual with the Beatles poll, where we enter week 351 and ask this question: Rate the Beatles movie A Hard Day's Night

This week we will take a break from rating videos at the Beatles poll (which, like over at the other 2 polls, is also very popular here too, and these questions will return in a short time). But for the next few weeks we will turn to rating their 5 movies, starting with their first one, A Hard Day's Night. Released in 1964, it's a musical comedy that was directed by Richard Lester and starred the Beatles as themselves. Like just about everything else this band put out, this flick was a major hit. The plot of the movie wasn't anything great at all, but that didn’t matter too much, as there was no music TV or any true music videos, etc, back in ‘64 and fans were gonna love this movie even if it hadn’t been as great as it turned out to be. But it was as great as hoped, and not even to just us Beatles fans. Even some of our baby boomer parents liked it, too. Since I was a preteen back then and a big Beatles fan, my two older sisters didn’t wish to take their little brother along with them to go see the movie, and they didn’t. So I talked my dad into taking me, and dad liked the movie too and he became a Beatle fan on that day thanks to the movie.

So how do you rate this first Beatle movie? To vote in this poll, please go here: Beatles Weekly Poll.

In last week's Beatles poll we asked: Rate the Beatles official video for 'Hey Bulldog' (Click here for the video)

My oh my is this video well loved! I haven’t checked all of our past video polls to see for sure, but over all I’m pretty sure that this video just scored the highest numbers out of any other video poll held on the domain. One thing I know for sure is that its top rating, a “10”, scored the highest percentages ever for a 10 rating, and by a wide margin, with 57.1% of the vote (the top pick usually sees about a 25% take of the first place vote on average). 97.9% of the votes were for votes between 8 and 10! Only 0.6% of the votes were cast for a “6” or under!

To view the final results, just go there: Beatles Weekly Poll – week 350. Or, you can check out the final results at the: Beatles Video and Movie page, which is located at the domain’s Lennon Site.

Well that does it for this week’s poll post! I thank you all for voting each week in our polls, and also for the positive support in the emails I received last week from a few of you fellow Gassers about some news that I didn’t even release yet here. But a few of you did learn about it beforehand. But yes, I’ll make a post about that important announcement by this Tuesday morning the latest. It is a important message for those who post and read Gasland, so if you do care and or read this place regularly, and so many of you do, you will want to know about this upcoming news. So do look out for that post, more than likely late Monday nite or early Tuesday the latest.
