I think what he meant by "in the can", was that they had all the songs they wanted to record ready to go and all written, and they did go into the studio to recorded them, started a few of them on that first day, and then on a break MJ started to do some cover blue tunes and they ended up going in a totally different direction after that.
The very last thing this band heeds to do is waste any more time on releasing any more live crap! If they never again release another live album again, that will be too soon for me! To say they have no newly written material is flat out incorrect, as they have more than likely a double album of new songs already written that they just need to record. The B&L LP got in the way of all that, and the best way to get MJ back into the damn studio to record new stiff with the band, is for fans like Fatmo to say what he just did about them having nothing new to show us. Well, he didn't say that, he said they didn't have anything great in them left to put out anymore, and that's what Jagger needs to read - since he hates reading that kind of talk and knowing that his top fans think that of him and his band. That alone will get him back in the studio.
No question, they need to get back into the studio asap before even more fans start to believe that they are washed up as far as putting together anything new that can be great goes. I know they can still do it, but will they? Playing live brings in so much more money, and sadly, that is what always has mattered more to MJ than anything else. You think by now that would matter the least today for a guy in his mid 70s who has way too much money than he will ever need... but not Mick! Sadly, money still comes first to him, and the most money comes from live tours, and he knows that!
