RE: RE: RE: RE: Thumbs still down to Morrison

Well, I suppose by saying Lennon failed in school isn't a cheap shot, it's just saying he failed in school...no?

To me, that's a clear cheap shot and nothing more. It had nothing to do with what I or anybody in this thread was talking about.

I don't know, I guess we both think we've studied things and think what we do about these old dead guys.

Well maybe I had an advantage over you on him, since I didn't have to study him at all, since he was alive when I was alive. I actually never studied anything about him, I had no need to do that. I saw all the things he did myself with my own 2 eyes. I saw when he was in the Beatles, I saw him release new songs, saw him live in concert, and I saw him marched for peace. I and anybody else alive in 1980 will never forget the day he was killed and we remember exactly what we were doing when we found out it happened. It was the same thing like when JFK was killed, or when 911 happened. There's only a handful of events in a lifetime like that which are remembered in that way; that's just how important a man Lennon was. The world stood still the day we lost him since he was that important a guy. I guess you just didn't ever realized that, but that's how it was with him.

I just think when you look at specifics Lennon is really overrated and yet he's practically viewed as exalted these days.

He was exalted and earned it, and was looked at in that way since the '60s. You don't like him, that's your loss, but it doesn't make him any less than the great guy who he was. He was loved or at the least liked by all in his generation, and in other generations that followed. Even those in the WW2 generation who didn't care for him or any of the Baby Boomers, knew that about him.

But in just what was he overrated in? He was as great a singer as anybody else was, a great songwriter who nobody in rock could beat, he was an underrated guitar player, and most important he was also a very good man who cared about his fans, mankind, and the world he lived in. So in what was he overrated? I can't think of one thing that he was overrated in.
