Well, I suppose by saying Lennon failed in school isn't a cheap shot, it's just saying he failed in school...no?

I don't know, I guess we both think we've studied things and think what we do about these old dead guys. I just think when you look at specifics Lennon is really overrated and yet he's practically viewed as exalted these days. And people love to simply think of Morrison as an asshole alcoholic nowadays but I think he was really the real deal, by far more than the Beatles (although maybe not as much as the 13th Floor Elevators) in terms of pushing the boundaries of awareness and thought and exploration of the human experience through music.

(As an aside, the real assholes in music were ginger baker and good old chuck berry, despite their obvious talent and influence.)
