B&L/RSN/DW/ENHM/Frontmen/Godlysongs/UndeplayedFabs

Time to get the poll post underway, as we enter week 933 of the Stones poll, where 2 polls are held each week. This week’s first Stones poll question will ask this: Blue and Lonesome vs England's Newest Hit Makers, which album do you like the best?

vs >

Last week we held the first round of “the blue polls”, and in its first ever matchup for the featured LP Blue and Lonesome in the Stones VS polls period, I had it go up against the Stones last studio LP before its release (ABB), and for round 2, B&L will go up against their very first release (in the U.S.), England's Newest Hit Makers.

ENHM isn’t doing so well in these matchups and I’m not sure why, as its record is a weak 4-7, and it’s way down there in standings, 7 spots from the very bottom. Maybe that’s because the LP is mainly covers? Well if that’s the case, the battle this week should be interesting, since both LPs this week got that in common.

To see the song list for each album, for Blue and Lonesome, click on: B&L, and for England's Newest Hit Makers , click here: ENHM.

To cast your vote in this first Stones poll, just click on: Stones Weekly Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

The second Stones poll is where we normally run the Stones album VS matchups, and we are still doing that while the first poll also hosts a new series for it. But as most of you reading this already know, each week we bring back an older series from the album matchups poll to join in the battle once again. So this week’s second Stones poll question is: Dirty Work vs The Rolling Stones, Now!, which album do you like the best?

vs

Yes, the “very dirty polls” series returns this week featuring the Stones Dirty Work album, which is the most voted on album in the series, in fact it only has 4 more match ups left to be in after this week. Yes, the LP will be first in something for sure, the first album to cross the finish line in this series! Yet it's still the only album without a single win yet, too, sitting in last place in the standings with a 0-19 record.

This week DW goes up against The Rolling Stones, Now!, which is doing well enough in these battles, with a winning record of 7-5, good for a 3 way tie for 10th place.

To cast your vote in this second Stones poll, just click on: Stones Weekly Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

At the Stones two polls last week, both polls were as close as they could have been since the minute the polls were started up, and each day the lead was different, and whichever 2 albums were leading in each poll, each was leading by only a vote or 2 and that was it, sometimes the albums were all tied for first, and only at the close of the polling Sunday night, would we know which 2 LPs would end up in top for sure. That’s the kind of polling I love!

The first Stones poll last week asked: Blue and Lonesome vs A Bigger Bang, which album do you like the best?.

vs >

So as I just noted, real real close voting in this one, and the album that was in first when I last check on Saturday, wasn’t at the close of voting on Sunday. To see what LP that was, just click here::Stones Weekly Poll - week 932, poll 1. Plus, I’ll add the results from this poll to the standings at the Stones VS Page 1, where at the top of the page you can check out the updated standings on how each album has done in these long running VS polls.

Looking back at last week’s second Stones poll, the question was: Goats Head Soup vs Out Of Our Heads, which album do you like the best?

vs or

So again, the very same thing took place at this poll that took place at the first one, we saw one great head to head battle for sure. To see which LP came out on top, just click on here:Stones Weekly Poll - week 932, poll 2. Plus, just like at the first poll, I’ll add the results from this poll also to the standings at the Stones VS Page 1.

Over at the Classic Rock Poll, we enter week 573, and just like as we do at the Stones poll, we run 2 poll questions a week at this one, too. The first poll’s question will ask this: Who was/is the best frontman/frontwoman in rock? (Part 3 or 4)

Week 3 of this poll, and although I didn't plan it this way, looking at this week's list for Part 3, I would say this is the best matchups of the 3 parts that we will choose from.

To vote in this poll, just click here: Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

At the second Rock poll this week, known better as the Rock VS poll, we ask this question: 'Spirit in the Sky' by Norman Greenbaum vs 'My Sweet Lord' by George Harrison, which religious rock song is better?

The other day the Doobie brothers song "Jesus is Alright by Me' came on the radio and I turned off the radio, as I'm so sick of hearing that song. Not because it's a religious songs, but because it's overplayed on the radio (it's the Doobie Bros "Hey Jude" I guess when it comes to too much air time), and I guess I had the Beatles poll from last week on my mind too, making me think in that matter. But it got me to come up with this week’s poll question, too, after thinking about the fact that I’ve never asked a poll about Gospel music, which I do like and it isn’t that I don’t like the Dobbie’s cover of this one song, I’ve just heard it too many times, and that is just not “alright by me”.

Lots of God loving, and praising in these 2 songs this week, including the Norman Greenbaum written song talking about having a friend in Jesus, even if Greenbaum is Jewish and he doesn't and never has believed in Jesus. Greenbaum wrote his song in 1968 after hearing Gospel music for the first time and digging what he heard. As a nonbeliever myself, I can totally understand that, since I like good Gospel music too. Let's face it, black Gospel music is where rock music came from, and there's no question about that! So while I might not agree with the words being sung in any such songs, well that happens with many other nonreligious songs for me too. I love the Stones SFTD, but I sure don't believe in Satan or anything evil; I love the Beatles' "Maxwell Silver Hammer", but I sure as shit don't believe in supporting any serial killers; and there are so many sexist songs out there that I also like/love even if I don't support sexist people; etc, etc, etc...

The George Harrison tune is of course not about Jesus, it’s about another God, who’s one of the many different Hindu Gods out there that I also don't believe in. Yet I still dig this song, too. Yet if it or the Greenbaum song was played on the radio as often as the Doobie Brothers song is, I would be sick of hearing them both, too. But they aren't (well they could be in some places I guess), and they are both the 2 featured songs I picked to appear in this week's VS poll.

One last note, I never have ran a poll question about gospel songs at the polls before, and after so many years, why not run one? So I was going to do that this week after hearing the Doobie’s song, but then realized that although 'Spirit in the Sky', like the Doobie’s song is gospel, the George Harrison song really isn’t. So I felt I needed to change the wording a bit and replaced “gospel” with “religious”, since that fits better, but makes this week poll now not a gospel poll after all. But in time I’ll think one up for a future poll.

So which song do you like better? To make your choice and vote, just click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question, and yes, as usual, you will be able to hear both songs using the links provided in the voting booth, before you vote.

In last week’s first Rock poll, we asked: Who was/is the best frontman/frontwoman in rock? (Part 2 or 4)

The 8 rockers picked from last week who will be showing up again in the final round are: John Lennon of the Beatles (8.2%), Rodger Daltrey of the Who (6.8%), Freddie Mercury of Queen (6.7%), Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull (6.6%), Janis Joplin of Big Brother and the Holding Co. (6.5%), Rod Stewart of The Faces, and The Jeff Beck Group (6.4%), Bob Marley of The Wailers (6.4%), Marc Bolan of T-Rex (6.4%)

2 other rockers tied for 9th place and missed out making the cut by 1 vote each. To see who they were and where the other rockers listed finished in the voting, just click here: Classic Rock Poll 1, week 572

In last week’s VS Rock poll, we saluted the late Gregg Allman and asked this: 'Midnight Rider': Original by The Allman Brothers Band vs original by Gregg Allman, which version is better?

This one wasn’t as close, and the version of the song that was the hit single, lost out to the single version that didn’t even chart. To see which song that is if you don’t know, just click here: Rock Poll 2, week 572 You can also check out the final results at the VS Classic poll results page 2, at the Classic Rock site, by clicking here: VS Page 2, List Page 10.

We close out this poll post as usual with the Beatles poll, where it’s week 326, and this week’s brand new question asks this: Which one of the following Beatles songs would you like to hear more of on the radio? (Part 1 of 3)

This week's question is the opposite of last week's question, as we will look at the Beatles songs that aren't played a lot on the radio. I can come up with far more songs for this question than the songs listed for last week's poll, so this question will be broken up into 3 parts, and I'll just break up the entire list by alphabetical order, so A thru I songs will be voted on this week in Part 1.

So which one song do you want to year more in the radio? To vote in this poll, go here: Beatles Weekly Poll.

In last week's Beatles poll we answered this question: Which one of the following Beatles songs is the most overplayed on the radio?

What is it with most Beatle fans, with so many of them not being able to be a part of anything that might even look to be negative towards the Beatles? I don't see that in Stones fans (other than those who are only 'Keith' Stones fans perhaps). Whenever I run a poll question that is about the Stones that some may look at as being negative, like a question that might ask: 'what is you least favorite song on (insert a album name here)?' well we don't see any decline in the number of votes cast at the Stones poll for that week. But if I ask a question like that at the Beatles' poll, the drop-off in votes is noticeable. Yet the poll question for last week really wasn’t being negative towards the Fabs, it was perhaps being a bit negative towards radio stations and their music directors (known in the business ad "MDs"). But some fans I guess took this as putting down Beatle songs and sure enough, a drop off in polls cast took place last week while all of the other polls had normal or even record setting vote totals.

With that noted, the top pick for this question, and it got picked in a major landslide, was "Hey Jude". Heck, I also voted for it and it was the only Beatle song listed that I could have voted for, even if it's a favorite song of mine. But I guess all over the world it's overplayed since second place "Yesterday" saw far less votes than it (20.5% to 13.7%)

You can check out the full final results here: Beatles Weekly Poll – week 325. Or, you can check out the top results only, here Beatles miscellaneous page which is located at the domain’s Lennon Site.

Well that does it for yet another week’s poll post! I thank all of you who voted in all of this week's and last week's polls! You all have a great upcoming week now!
