...the years seem to be going so much faster and faster and faster... What in the hell is going on?
Life is what is going on!
I recall many years ago, this was back when my kids were real small, only about 4, 5 years old or so, and it was late Xmas night. My close friend, who had a son around the same age, looked over to where our 3 kids had been playing together with their new toys only minutes before, and noticed how in less than 10 minutes time, they all had out of the blue fallen asleep at the same time. He had first said to me, 'why did it get so quite so fast', and then we looked over to where our kids were and saw they had fallen asleep; they were totally out of gas from a long Xmas day. He then said to me and our ladies, "Remember back when we were kids, how long the days were, the summers seemed to go on forever, and it seemed to take forever each year for Xmas to come around, and now yet today everything flies by so fast as an adult". As it was, back then we were still young ourselves, still only in our 20s, but it was perhaps the first time I ever heard that saying from another about time moving too fast, and yes, if you think of it, when you were a preteen that wasn't the case at all, time went by so slow and all you wished for was to grow up fast. "Youth is wasted in the young" is an old saying and so true, and goes with another old saying "you don't know what you have until it's gone". That's true too, and as we grow older each day time just seems to speed up and move by even faster.
The other night on the Daily Show, they opened the show with a bit that must have been put together from past years, where, with the day being June 1, they must have had about 25 different very short clips from different news shows, or talk shows, etc, all put together, one after another, where the news anchor, host, or somebody else on the show, all said the very same thing "I can't believe it's June 1 already!". It was funny, because my grown daughter said the very same thing to me earlier in the day!
So yes, time is fleeting for sure if you're over 20 or so, it's just how life goes by in what seems to be only seconds. I'll close this out with another thing I'll never forget and always remember, it was what my great-Uncle, Mike, said the day he turned 80, and my cousin, who was my age (we were in our late teens at the time), said to him "Uncle Mike, how does it feel to be 80 and to live so many years?". His answer was simple "Oh, it all just flew by my dear".
