It was dark o.k., but I think the focus on Meek's descent into madness was the object of the movie. It's a depressing topic but there were more than a few farcical moments centred around the studio and his techniques I thought. I thought as well that the portrayal of Heinz as a complete buffoon was brutal, but again raised plenty of laughs, as did the Screaming Lord Sutch character.....The killing of his landlady I thought the director left a bit ambiguous.......?
The office I worked from in my first job in London in 1970 was only a few doors away from where Meek's studio had been on the Holloway Rd. Back then I paid absolutely no attention really to who produced records etc. By then I must have heard his work a million times, but didn't know of his existence.
