I suppose there is this idea that the words "Rock N' Roll" are kind of emblematic of something bigger, of all that opposed that which traditionalist and of the old order. This is why rappers are enshrined in the Rock HOF. Otherwise, why can't the rappers go in the Country and Western HOF or the Jazz HOF. These genres are equal in their dissimilarity with rap on a music level. But that will never happen, I'm sure. I suppose the other way of thinking would be to say that rap is, ultimate, an off-shoot of rock, blues, jazz, or whatever. Sill, it doesn't make perfect sense to me and it kind of seems like they are pandering to these newer genres.
