RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: Gene Clark sc

You're right, not L.A. but maybe not UK either since most sources indicate it was written by the two in a hotel in Pittsburg no less, after said flight

Never heard that about Pittsburgh before, but is that story correct? Well, I just did some fast internet research since I was sure it was written in the UK. Then I found some interesting stuff on this song in a very short time frame. First I read that yes, the song was written by Gene and Brain in a hotel room while they were on tour, while the Byrds were opening a show for the Stones, but it didn't say where they were. Then I learned that the song itself is about a trip on a plane to the UK to do a tour - for sure, but.... was it written there? Turns out - no, it wasn't, the hotel they were in was indeed in Pittsburgh, as I found this excellent, short interview with Gene Clark and in the first 2 minutes he talks only about this song, followed then by if it was true that he really left the band because of his fear of flying. Interesting answer to that!

But Gene does confirm that yes, he wrote the song with Brian and he felt that Brian should have gotten credit for it, but didn't. He also noted that Crosby and McGuinn did help him finish the song before they recorded it. Wish other rockers would do interviews like this about the songs they wrote, it would help clear up a lot of rumors and let us know if other stories might be true.... One thing I liked about Keith's autobiography is he did that for every single song he wrote, in great detail - other than for the one song Stones fans want to know the most about, that being "Ruby Tuesday", which in his book, he wrote very little about. The fact he didn't say anything about it and wrote about all of his other songs, tells me it really was Brian's song after all.

But getting back to "8 Miles High" and Clark, here is that interview, very cool to hear indeed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0IwK3EM9_A&feature=youtu.be
