True, and Marriott was a distinctive front man, too. It's a shame what happened to him and how he was killed. In this poll series' question, he'll be one of the few front men who will see a lot of votes for this question, since he was one of the few front men who was underrated. Gee, I just thought up a new poll question, "who was the most underrated of the front men?" yes, that would be a good question!
But getting back to the question at hand, the Faces were a different band when Marriott left. I think all rock bands change some when even one member leaves, since rock bands don't have a lot of members in them to begin with. The Stones were different when Brian left, and then when MT left, and even when Bill left. But they were still the Stones, and the Small Faces/Faces were still the same band, just a bit different indeed.
There are a few exceptions to all of this. When the Moody Blues changed several of their members early on - they were a totally different band indeed and weren't the Moody Blues anymore, and it was the second band that made it bigger than the first MBs. Then the current version of The Who - they aren't the Who at all anymore. The are not even a band today, since 2 guys don't make a band, they are now a duo, which is fine, and yes, they should still play old Who songs, but they should also drop the name, they don't even need to use it. I've been calling them "The Two" for years now, since that is who they are today. Then of course you got that band that still goes by the name of Lynyrd Skynyrd, who ARE NOT Lynyrd Skynyrd. When you only got one member left in the band, it's time to change the name! But the Small Faces and The Faces were still the same band overall.
