Paul was/is one of the best bass players in rock music.

I always felt that ex guitar players who switched to bass were amongst the greatest bassists of all time. Yet John Entwisle, who IMO was the greatest bass player bar none, I'm pretty sure never played guitar. He started out on horns if I recall reading.
