Yes, he is awesome on bass, particularly with the Beatles. McCartney often played melodic lead lines on bass while simultaneously locking in with Ringo, providing the Beatles with a distinctive rhythm section sound.

Entwistle was another monster on bass, with an entirely different approach to the instrument. At times he seemed to be doing three things at once - holding down the bottom end, anchoring and wrapping around Keith Moon's wild fill style, and playing lead lines arguably more often than the Who's nominal lead guitarist Pete Townshend,
