REVIEW

As I was listening to this album today, a good friend walked in and said "Oh you got on that old hippie music again". Yeah, this album is full of old, and I might add, great hippie music. Highway 61 Revisited was considered Dylan's first pure rock album when it was first released. It starts off with the classic "Like A Rolling Stone", one of his best overall songs ever. That is followed by the great tune, "Tombstone Blues". A nice one-two punch to get the album off rolling in the right direction. "Desolation Row" is perhaps the best written song on the album, written in a similar fashion to the album's title cut, which I like even a little more. It's almost like those two songs could have been combined lyrically. "Ballad Of A Thin Man" is another one of those Dylan songs that people want to know who he's singing about. Like most, I believe it's about the late Rolling Stone Brian Jones, but Dylan will never tell us for sure who it is about. Yet just another reason why you got to love the man and this album, he keeps you guessing and thinking 'just what did he mean by that' on so many of the songs found here.
